Restrictions and procedures on sending rice overseas |
November 18, 2015
When you send rice overseas (including milled rice), some receiving countries and regions impose prohibitions or restrictions such as the quarantine requirements for food imports.
For exporting rice for commercial purposes, it is obliged to notify export quantity in advance to the nearby Regional Agricultural Administration Office or a similar organization.
It is not required to inform exporting rice for personal use.
The definition of "personal use" includes consumption by people who export rice or their family members, as well as souvenirs and gifts to their friends and others.
When you send rice overseas using International Mail please check 1) if it is a prohibited article in the receiving country and 2) if the receiving country allows export from Japan. Then, you must follow the necessary procedures before posting a parcel, except 3) non-commercial shipments for personal use.
